Couples Counselling

Conflict is a natural part of every relationship. While it may feel uncomfortable, it's an expected and normal aspect of intimate partnerships. Over time, many couples encounter periods where their relationship doesn't feel as emotionally safe, connected, or loving as it once did, or as they wished it would be. Challenges such as communication breakdowns, trust issues, changes in intimacy, or the adjustments that come with becoming new parents can create negative patterns that may spiral out of control. As each partner becomes more hurt or disconnected, the need for external support intensifies.

Couples counselling provides a safe, supportive space to unpack these patterns and feelings, helping you experience your relationship in a new way. Through therapy, couples can learn to navigate conflicts constructively, enhance communication, rebuild trust, and rekindle intimacy. This process empowers partners to transform their relationship dynamics, fostering a deeper, more resilient connection.

Here's an overview of the process to help you understand what to anticipate:

Initial 90-Minute Couples Session

The journey begins with a comprehensive 90-minute session where both partners attend together. This session focuses on understanding your relationship dynamics, communication patterns, and the specific challenges you're facing. It's an opportunity to share your perspectives and begin building a collaborative approach to your concerns.

Subsequent Individual Sessions

Following the initial session, the next two appointments are conducted individually with each partner. These sessions allow for personal exploration of individual experiences, emotions, and perspectives within the relationship. They provide a space to delve deeper into personal insights that contribute to the relationship's dynamics.

Ongoing Couples Sessions

After the individual sessions, counselling returns to joint sessions. These sessions go for 60-minutes, and you can choose between face-to-face format or telehealth, depending on your needs and preferences. These sessions aim to identify and process emotions, restructure negative interaction patterns, and foster secure attachment bonds, helping you build a more fulfilling and emotionally connected relationship.
